Governor Greg Abbott has called a Special Session of the Texas Legislature and it starts Monday, July 21, 2025. These sessions are brief, intense, and often go unnoticed. But what happens in them can have significant consequences for everyday Texans, especially when it comes to things like:
- Your rights as a consumer
- Access to safe hemp-derived products (like Delta-8, Delta-9, and CBD)
- Local business regulations
- Public education and safety
- Personal freedoms
🧐 What Is a Special Session, Anyway?
In Texas, the legislature only meets once every two years. But the Governor can call a Special Session at any time — and decide what specific topics lawmakers are allowed to vote on.
Each session lasts up to 30 days, and the public usually gets very little notice. That means laws can get pushed through quickly before most Texans even know what’s happening.
🌿 What’s at Risk for Hemp and Small Businesses?
If you’re a customer who values access to legal hemp-derived products — or a small business that sells them — this is the time to speak up.
In past sessions, lawmakers have tried to:
- Ban Delta-8 or Delta-9 THC, even when federally legal
- Restrict the total THC limits in hemp products
- Add confusing labeling and licensing rules
- Target small, compliant businesses instead of focusing on bad actors
We expect similar efforts to return during this special session — unless enough of us speak up.
